INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK OF HABAKKUK
The Book of Habakkuk is the eighth book of the 12 minor prophets of the Bible. It is attributed to the prophet Habakkuk, and was probably composed in the late 7th century BC. Habakkuk ministered to the Southern Kingdom just before the exile, when their unrepentant sinfulness was at its height, around 625-604 B.C. The Book of Habakkuk contains two prophetic laments (1:2–4, 12–17) in which Habakkuk questions God’s righteousness. The Lord responds by explaining His plans to judge (1:5–11; 2:1–4). This is followed by five woes that taunt those who have committed evil with their certain doom (2:6–20), as if to say, “Don’t worry, Habakkuk—God is righteous; He will judge.” The book ends with the prophet’s prayer of praise and his acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty over all outcomes.

God’s first response 1:5–11
Habakkuk’s second complaint 1:12—2:1

Habakkuk’s prayer 3:1–19
Habakkuk laments to God that Judah has turned away from His commandments, and wonders why there is no justice in the land, and no punishment for wickedness. God responds by telling Habakkuk that justice will come through the Chaldeans, who were poised to overthrow Judah. This causes Habakkuk to lament again, because he does not understand why the Chaldeans, a people even wicked than Israel, would be given such a victory. God calls Habakkuk to have faith in Him, that Israel will in time be restored unto righteousness and their enemies would be punished, which causes Habakkuk to break into a song of faith and praise.
Righteousness: God does not dole out blessings and punishments based on every person's level of righteousness at any point in time. Rather He always acts in such a way as to purify His people and conform them to His righteousness.
Faith: One of the Apostle Paul's favorite bible verses is Habakkuk 2:4, "The righteous shall live by faith." Habakkuk and Paul found strength to persevere on the same principle: live by faith in God's promises, not by what you see in the world.
God is a Redeemer God who will bring about the deliverance of his people, while they live in hope and trust in him alone.

WHY SHOULD I READ AND STUDY THE BOOK OF HABAKKUK?
Prophet Habakkuk starts his book with great prophetic questions. Below is some of the questions asked by prophet Habakkuk;
“2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and you will not hear? Even cry out to you, “Violence!” And you will not save. 3 Why do you show me iniquity, and cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; there is strife, and contention arises. 4 Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; therefore perverse judgment proceeds.”
Did Habakkuk get the answers to these questions? In the face of great trouble, Habakkuk brought his questions to God. After hearing God’s answer, he responded with a prayer of faith (3:2). He asked God to do great miracles. I understand that life can sometimes be full of questions hard to be understood. In the book of Habakkuk, Habakkuk cried unto God and God gave him prophetic answers that troubled him. There is no question that God Almighty is not willing and ready to answer. All you have to do is to give God the greater part of your time.
